Principal Cabinet Officer
CurrentInitially upon returning to Cabinet Office from the Commonwealth public service, I established and managed a unit providing cross-agency support for implementation of policy initiatives and promoting adoption of better practice in the implementation / delivery of policy. As this position was located in the Cabinet Secretariat unit I also fulfilled the role of head of the secretariat when the substantive manager was absent on extended leave. I provide advice and briefings to government in relation to various ministerial portfolios, principally in economic development, regulatory reform, infrastructure and economic portfolios. I have provided detailed reports on complex issues such as water pricing, deregulation and productivity reforms as well as routine briefings on policy submissions to Cabinet. I have represented S.A. on various national and intergovernmental committees including BRCWG and the COAG BAF Task Force - national bodies overseeing a wide range of national reforms affecting the economy. This also involves briefing the government and recommending policy and negotiating stances as well as commissioning analysis to provide evidence supporting the state’s position. I have led interagency teams and represented S.A. in a number of major reforms – including the National Occupational Licensing Reform and National Environmental Regulation Reform. Provided advice on deregulation policy in the context of national and state reform priorities. Established strong working relations with key agency staff and ministerial staff.
