As a desk operator my duties included trading live sporting events and change market prices by analysing various aspects of the event in play. I developed communication skills by answering customer queries over the phone. As this job involved spread betting rather than fixed odds, analysis was a big part of the job. For example before accepting a bet I must determine whether a customer has sufficient balance to cover possible losses. The research project focused on curcumin's effects on ACHN kindey cancer cells. During the project I performed many diverse lab tasks including Western blots, viability assays and proteomics. I learned how to perform mass spectrometry analysis and to use software such as STRING and Reactome. I gained insight into working as part of a team and how to learn from others in the lab. I was responsible for the upkeep of the ACHN cells, ensuring that the media was changed regularly and that this media contained the right components.

In PRL I was responsible for coordinating the delivery of goods into the warehouse. This involved unloading and loading trucks hourly, often using a forklift for which I have a license. I learned to operate as part as a team to ensure deliveries were dispatched speedily. I had to take innovative in order to solve problems occurring within the warehouse on a daily basis.
