With over 40 years' experience across diverse sectors, WGA offers a wide range of consulting services including structural, civil, maritime, mechanical, geotechnical, heavy lifting, temporary works, project management, electrical, pressure vessels, hydrogeology and demolition.Peter McBean is a Director and Group technical Manager of WGA, responsible for design within the group which currently employing 550 people. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia, a Chartered Professional Engineer, and has held a number of professional advisory and industry roles. Peter is an active member of Standards Australia, volunteering his time to Code Committee BD-006-11 which is responsible for "Earthquake Actions in Australia", AS1170.4 and BD-002 responsible for "Concrete Structures", AS 3600 and currently chairs the seismic design provisions sub-committee for AS3600.Peter’s particular professional interests are in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering and was National President for the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society from 2016 to 2019. He has been the Structural Engineer Design Director for many projects including the $2.44b New Royal Adelaide Hospital which opened in 2017. In additional to design activities, Peter is an active Australian Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) Task force Engineer. Following the devastating Christchurch earthquake of February 2011, Peter spent two weeks within the city providing structural engineering advice to the Australian USAR response team. For this work he was awarded the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal by the Australian Government.Peter has authored many journal articles and conference papers on seismic design and was the joint recipient of Engineers Australia's RW Chapman Medal in 2019 for his research and contribution to the paper "RC walls in Australia: seismic design detailing to AS1170.4 and AS3600". Peter also co-authored the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia's new publication "Guide to Seismic Design and Detailing of Reinforced Concrete Buildings in Australia".
