Having found myself wanting to relocate towards the end of my time in Bristol, I moved to Leeds in search of some new opportunities in a different environment, having saved enough money to do so. After a few months of adapting to my new surroundings, I was offered a job at The Queens Hotel in the centre of Leeds. When first starting my role, I saw it as an opportunity to develop upon my customer-facing skills in an intense, high-end hospitality environment. This job has allowed me time to pursue some of my hobbies, such as becoming more physically active and music production. I have seen this role as a key period in my personal development, better harnessing my confidence in high-pressured situations. In my short time in hospitality, I have grown from an inexperienced worker to a vitally valued member of the team, with the confidence and know-how to train any of the new staff in my department.

Having moved to Bristol post-university, I looked for work in a number of different sectors. Shine gave me the opportunity to join their coaching team in the autumn of 2021. As my first full-time role when I had joined, I could not have imagined the plethora of experiences I would have in this position. The marketing side of the position was where I really found my confidence - I had the chance to create a two-minute promotional video for our holiday camp provisions, while negotiating agreements with local newspapers for monthly advertorials written by myself. All of this alongside working with a fantastic marketing team, who have given me essential knowledge and skills to perform well in a marketing or digital marketing position. This position developed my professional skills to a degree that I couldn’t have wished for, leading groups of over 40 children, communicating with parents and exercising every last trace of patience with the children!

For six months, I had the opportunity to work at Wilko hardware stores, both in Woolwich and Greenwich. My duties as a customer assistant varied between shifts, but the role entailed stock working, shelf stacking and customer facing responsibilities such as working the tills and helping customers with products.

In the autumn of 2019, I started work in my university’s sports facility as a social media intern. The position entailed creating and scheduling social media content for SportsDock, to be posted on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. In this position I learned how to respond to certain social media trends, in order for the organisation to benefit. In this position I also created graphics, took photos, recorded videos and learnt how to use software such as Buffer and Microsoft Teams. I worked collaboratively with two others to plan content months in advance in order to achieve the best response from the public.

As an extension of my contract at Carre’s Fitness Facility, I also began work in the Sports Hall in 2017. Being a leisure attendant required me to take monies from clients, set up and clear any activities that had been booked in the facility, maintain and clean equipment and also run children’s parties that were booked in the hall – giving me a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills working with children.

In the summer of 2017, I was offered a Job at Carre’s Grammar School Fitness Facility, an independent gym that is run from within the school I attended. As a fitness instructor, my role entailed tasks such as fitness profiling, fitness programme designing on a client-to-client basis, maintaining and cleaning equipment, while also ensuring everyone in the facility was exercising safely and effectively.

From the summer of 2016, I worked at Music Workshop, based in Normanton, Lincolnshire as a Drum Instructor, teaching a number of young children how to play the Drums, instructing them on the rudimentary and technical side of the instrument. I had the pleasure of helping them work towards Grades and live performances held by the organisation.
