Bank Staff nurse, Merseycare, Ashworth Hospital/Scott Clinic(April 2001 to Present day)I have worked as a staff nurse on Merseycare bank for 13 years and during this time I have undertaken many roles which include Nurse in charge duties whilst at Ashworth hospital. These duties have also included the effective running of the shift within high dependency units and other wards off the hospital.I have also undertaken the safe administration of prescribed medicines to the patient group. Risk management of the patient group within high secure services is an integral part of the role and this includes knowledge of procedural, relational and physical security systems within the clinical areas I have worked in.Since April 2013 I have been working at Scott clinic medium secure services. Again my main duties include Nurse in charge duties and responsibilities, including the planning and implementation of care for service users. The role also includes the continuous assessment of the patient group and to help achieve co-operation in working towards shared goals. Liaison within the MDT is also an integral part of my duty as staff nurse, and when appropriate my duties will include report writing and handing over clinical information pertinent to the service users individual needs.I have undertaken an active lead within the clinical setting due to my previous experience of 9 years working as charge nurse in the private sector. I currently see myself as a positive role model for the staff and service users due to being clinically credible in my role.

My main duties and responsibilities as Deputy charge nurse were to lead the clinical practice of my team at all times and to ensure that the needs of the service users were being met. This would be initiated by promoting a culture conducive to learning and by ensuring that a process of clinical supervision and audit were being met through the key performance indicator tool, and also targets set out by CQUIN. Within my role I would also promote and ensure that each member of the team worked within the standards of ethical practice, and ensured that best practice guidance was adhered to and practiced within the clinical setting. The role also included ensuring that patients were actively involved in the process of care. More recently this has been set out in the My shared pathway process which I have a good working knowledge of. As Deputy Charge Nurse I undertook the role of Site Co ordinator in which I would be responsible for 6 wards within the hospital during out of hours (9-5). This role would concentrate on the recruitment of staff where necessary and to deal with any out of hours emergency that took place on site including emergency admissions. The role also ensured that high standards of care were always being met on site.The Deputy Charge Nurse role also encouraged staff to engage and promote continuous professional development within the team, by using organisational systems such as peer review, clinical supervision, mentorship and professional development.Within the audit trail I would also be in charge of ensuring key performance indicators were being met on the ward which I worked. This included the audit of care plans and management plans and to ensure that a wide range of assessment tools were being utilised to meet the needs of the patient group. By providing effective clinical audit as Deputy Charge Nurse I ensured that I helped and assisted in achieving holistic needs led services.
