 Hired as an applications engineer troubleshooting customer problems, I was promoted to design engineering in 2007. Work in Current Product group primarily involves resolving manufacturing issues and implementing cost reduction initiatives on small gasoline engines. New air cleaner on Command Twin for $20 savings per engine. New hydraulic pump closure plate/lubrication system for $20 savings per engine. Responsible for all projects or actions taken on the Kohler Command Twin and Aegis liquid cooled engines.  Customer interface – any issues that needed to be resolved with hot or cold room testing, and dyno testing. Design parts that were needed for customer interface, part and process improvement or cost reduction, currently 2 patents awarded. U.S. Patent D596,650 Engine crankcase closure-adapter device U.S. Patent 20090000871 System and method for lubricating power transmitting elements Plan, test and verify any parts for production, including timelines and budget control. Launch new parts, taken from concept, analysis, testing and then Product Change Request. Problem solving, including FMEA, FEA analysis, and 8D.

Development Engineer/Camless Engine Program Hydraulic bridging feasibility – Studied the Fluid Dynamics to show system is viable for camless systems. Valve actuator system performance – Documentation of the system baseline performance including; engine valve seating velocity, flank velocity, hydraulic damper performance, system oil consumption, engine valve opening timing, shot to shot repeatability, valve to valve repeatability, fluid dynamics, valve boost lift and valve full lift.  Valve actuator initial set-up – Orifice sizing to achieve desired seating velocities, valve damping, and flank rate control. This data was also used for correlation of the hydraulic model Climatic testing – Demonstrated system capability down to –30 deg. C using synthetic 5w40 engine oil, showing thermodynamics and fluid dynamics of system. Dyno. Engine support – Provided assistance with the set-up and trouble shooting of the camless engine in the dyno. Engine testing was run to document camless benefits on torque curve, fuel consumption, and emissions.
