Reporting Officer, and authorised analyst. Working as part of a large team in the London toxicology section. Responsible for the examination of items and direction of analyses for alcohol, controlled and prescribed drugs and noxious substances. Interpretation of the findings and preparation of a report as a criminal justice statement, within the timescales of the customer. These cover areas of serious crime including murder, suspicious death, assault, rape, driving and aviation offences. Provision of expert witness testimony in the courts.

Toxicologist responsible for the final review of all confirmed positive drug analyses for both the British Armed forces and HM Prisons Service. Derived from screening over 100,000 urine samples each year. Helped develop an innovative method for LSD in conjunction with an Oxfordshire based biotechnology company. Project manager for use of cell culture to assess toxicity

Toxicologist supervising the toxicology laboratory in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School. The laboratory, with 4 toxicologists, provided an analytical service to the hospital and to over 12 pathologists acting for coroners and police forces in London and surrounding counties. It analysed and interpreted the effects of drugs used therapeutically; abused in overdose or taken by drug addicts. Supervised a urine drug screening service for the hospital drug dependency unit. Pioneering near-patient drug abuse testing with laboratory back-up. Lecturer to medical students on Toxicology, and guest lecturer at the University of Surrey, the City University, and on the Diploma in Addictive Behaviour Course for Prison Medical Officers at St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London. Recognised teacher of the University of London, with responsibilities for examining PhD and M.Phil degrees. Organiser of several national conferences on drug testing and analytical toxicology for the London Toxicology Group (past chairman).
