For as long as I remember I wanted to be a footballer, at 15 yrs of age I signed a 4 yr deal with then premiership club, Leeds Utd. I left Ireland to chase a dream that so many other Irish boys before me had chased, I moved over to England at 16 yrs of age to pursue my dream career… My life changed in an instant, I was a passenger in the back of my teammate's car when it was involved in a road traffic accident. I broke my back in 2 places and my life was never to be the same again. I spent 12 weeks in hospital, I’m now a paraplegic but I don’t let that stop me pursue new goals… Within a year of the crash I was representing Ireland, not in football as I dreamt of so many times as a kid, but in wheelchair basketball. That opportunity then led to acting opportunities and particularly a role in the ground breaking mockumentary Cast Offs, followed by spells on Hollyoaks and Coronation Street and a host of comedy-dramas.My real passion is still football & sharing my experiences, inspiring others but also helping them to contextualise and make good decisions, particularly in the unforgiving environments of elite sport.I’m now the assistant manager of Derry City Women, I scout for Burnley FC & I travel all over the UK & Ireland sharing my experiences with young athletes ( particularly footballers ) . But even more importantly I’m a Dad and a Husband… I built a life for myself, A life I could only of dreamt of having tragically lost my career so young!
