I am a human rights lawyer working in refugee protection. I am an avid reader of the refugee law and international humanitarian law ( the law of armed conflict). If I were not in this field of humanitarian service I would most probably be working for the Kenyan Judiciary where I served for close to 8 years before joining the UN. As a young and courageous judicial officer in various duty stations in Kenya, great zeal and courage imbued my judicial pronouncements particularly in the Children Court where the best interest of the child principle gave wide ranging powers to vindicate the rights of neglected and abused children, with baited technical and technical limitation. Litigation was my best take of active private legal practice, but lately facilitation of legal workshops is the function I enjoy the most in my protection work. While working as UNHCR National Officer in Kenya, I with great help of former judicial colleagues instituted a robust Refugee Law training framework for Kenyan Judicial officers, which to date remains as a benchmark of success in the region on refugees' protection capacity building of Governmental stakeholders . This initiative later culminated into the birth of the East African Cluster of the International Association of Refugee Law Judges, in 2012 at Serena Mombasa where I proudly shared a training platform with the one and only Professor Hathaway. The mobile court initiative in Kenya, the refugee prisoners outreach, the use of the Court Users platform for the dissemination of the rights of refugee, and pioneer refugee rights litigations in Kenya remain some my fondest memories of service as a national protection officer in Kenya for close to 8 years.
