I am now a full-time carer for my wife, Lorna, who has Young Alzheimer's. Peter Higgs is a man who has endured his lifetime coping with both physical and mental disability. His story is informative, inspiring and rich in spirit. Peter gives help and hope to so many that live the cruel fate, and consequences of, such debilitating conditions. His unyielding spirit, ingenuity, faith and meticulous approach to managing his illness ignited, what is called - his ‘Redemptive Life Vision: Practicing the Mission of my Life’. Peter is a passionate educator on mental health topics; an advocate for faith in action. He enjoys (limited) public speaking, with a desire to share simple, humble and worthy words which create a roadmap of understanding on how to survive and flourish, to live and feel well , and to empower and enable our mental health in secular and sacred areas of our community. His story imparts a deep wisdom and humanity that is rare in today’s world. His personal quest to get better and live well is a testament to his resilience. Peter’s story is one of, courage, deep spirituality; and determination. He has a relentless dedication to a higher purpose - a belief in the Lord our God’s love and joy and grace - orchestrating a safety, strength and flourishing throughout five decades of struggle and success. These were defined by his belief in God and his ever-present welfare. Peter has dedicated himself to the endeavour of learning. He is seeking an understanding of his unique journey of pain and sorrow, joy and growth, in the midst of the journey of mental and physical illness – having lived through the experience of Epilepsy, Neuro Degenerative Disorder, Bipolar; spirituality; and personal growth. Peter resolutely believes we have the right to choose our way of life. To choose our own beliefs and actions: we all have the right to choose our personal life journey and eternal destiny - just as Peter has chosen to live according to his Christian faith.
