Authored technical instruction for the station lubrication program. Created new and revised existing lubrication assignment documents. Supervised up to 25 fuel handling operators involved in materials handling. Trained fuel handlers to operate barge unloader and heavy equipment. Managed mobil and coal pile equipment maintenance. Eliminated coal barge demurrage cost through efficient coordination of barge delivery and unloading. Greatly reduced department overtime through work practice changes. Instrumental in the elimination of station coal storage pile and the practice of ‘just in time’ coal delivery. Operated the station vacuum trucks, street sweeper, water wagon, backhoe, steerskid loader, scraper, bulldozers and clamshell barge unloaders.

Fisk Generating Station

Performed duties of station chemist, including all wet chemical anaylsis. Acted as site specialist for demineralizer, hypo chlorinator and wastewater treatment processes. Pioneered condenser water box air drying currently practiced by generating stations. Wrote station procedure and coordinated the chemical cleaning of Unit 19 boiler. Authored the station's Waste Water Treatment Plant equipment status monthly updates and developed the W.W.T.P. operator inspection checklist. Wrote station procedure for operating the hypo/bromide water-box injection system. Processed and treated air heater wash waste stream. Trained operating personnel to operate the W.W.T.P. Acted as quality control auditor and weld inspector. Performed liquid dye penetrant, magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing. Utilized and calibrated various testing equipment to diagnose equipment malfunctions. Performed outage/maintenance inspections of the furnaces, fans, mills, pumps, condenser and turbines. Certified waste water treatment plant operator by the Illinois E.P.A.

Successfully passed Commonwealth Edison’s electrical Board of Review. Synchronized Unit generator to system power grid. Controlled generator output to match the phase, frequency, and voltage of electricity supplied to panels. Operated and monitored the station’s electrical switchgear. Maintained station battery and D.C. operating bus systems. Monitored electric relay and metering devices. Started as needed the diesel and jet peaker generators. Promoted to management from a second class bargaining unit position.
