Karma Builders is a social enterprise designed to break the vicious cycle of unemployment and re-incarceration. We hire, pay and train formerly incarcerated people to provide woodworking and assembly services for local sustainable companies. We refer to this part of our program as 'hard-skills training.' Parallel to this, we run a 'soft-skills training' which consists of a holistic program based on established mindfulness practices such as MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction was founded by Dr. Jon Kabbat-Zin at the University of Massachusetts Medical School). Our intention with the six-month program is to support our participants in the process of re-building their confidence, dignity and the skill set needed to find and retain gainful employment in the world's emerging socially responsible job market.
