The South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre Limited (SATAC) is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (cth). SATAC processes applications for many of the courses offered by participating institutions - TAFE SA, the three universities in South Australia (Flinders University, The University of Adelaide and University of South Australia) and Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory.SATAC assesses the academic and non-academic qualifications presented by applicants, and ranks eligible applicants in merit order for each course according to the rules and guidelines provided by the institutions.SATAC generates offers based on the number of applicants required to fill each course, as set by the institutions, and act as a 'one-stop-shop' for enquiries about the outcomes of applications.SATAC also administers the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) for applicants applying for undergraduate courses under a special entry program.

This Division included international brands such as Hills, Bailey and Oldfields (ladders), Kelso (wheelbarrows), Triton (woodworking equipment) and Alquip (scaffolding).Responsibilities as General Manger: Accounting & Administration included:Financial Analysis, Decision Support, Business Intelligence & Reporting; Developing and Leading the Annual Budgeting Process; Human Resources Function - including Performance Management & Salary Packaging; Strategic Planning - Developing, Facilitating and Executing Strategic Planning for the Division; Information Systems & Technology; Acquisition Due Diligence; and Price & Margin Management Support.

It reports to its ultimate German parent entity, Veba AG, which has a turnover of $59 billion.Schenker was divided into two internal reporting divisions: Eurocargo, which deals in European surface transport and fairs and exhibitions, and International, which deals in worldwide airfreight, deep-sea traffic, and special heavy-lift projects.I worked as a consultant for the company for eight months before being promoted to the permanent position of Financial Controller on 1 January 1994. I reported to the Chairman and performed the following functions:• Preparing detailed monthly management accounts and monthly reporting to the German Head Offices• Liaising with operational departments to improve gross profit reporting• Planning and performing year-end accounting procedures and preparing schedules, consolidations and annual financial statements for external auditors• Preparing monthly forecasts and yearly budgets for operations departments and overhead cost centres• Assisting in the preparation of capital expenditure requests• Training staff in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word for Windows• Assisting in implementing new IBM AS/400 accounting software and hardware• Reviewing IT internal controls and the accounting control environment

The firm had over 7,000 staff in the UK.I was originally transferred for 18 months to London from the firm’s Adelaide office as an Audit Senior, being promoted to Supervisor in my second year. I remained with the London Office for a further year. I was primarily involved with large property, manufacturing, oil and gas clients with up to $5 billion turnover. Three of my clients were Financial Times top 100 companies. My major audit clients included Blue Circle Industries PLC, Elf Oil Limited, Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company Limited, Ladbrokes PLC (Property Division), Lucas Industries PLC (After-market operations), Schenkers Limited and Atlas Navigation Limited.The non-audit related work I performed included:• Secondment to Securities Investment Board - London (equivalent to ACCC) to investigate claims against SIB members selling Home Income Schemes• Litigation support assignments preparing loss of profits claims for Ernst & Young as expert witnesses• Selection of graduates for employment with Ernst & Young• Preparation and presentation of in-house training sessions

I qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young, Adelaide before being seconded to the firm’s London Office. Major audit clients included BHP (Whyalla), Mobil Oil Australia Limited, Pasminco Limited (Nyrstar Port Pirie), Castrol, Sapfor Radiata Pine (Mt Gambia), CMV Ltd, Baulderstone Hornibrook and Harris Scarfe.
