Coordination of export and domestic cargo assembly and transport by liaison with marketing personnel, rail, laboratory staff, trucking and logistics personnel. Responsible for the preparation of proposals, planning and carrying out project work, budget control, writing reports and making technical presentations. Major projects completed include:- Pulverised Coal Injection technical and market study and report- Development of test apparatus and test methods for spontaneous combustion, dustiness and moisture holding properties (laboratory and pilot plant scale).- Evaluation of techniques for controlling dustiness and stockpile self heating of Blair Athol coal.- Evaluation of water based dust suppression reagents on coal and iron ore.- Investigation of improved methods of dewatering coal from the proposed pipeline at Westcliff Washery.- Assessment and development of dried coal treatment processes.- Design, commissioning and operation of a column flotation pilot plant, including on site operation.- Metallurgical evaluation of the flotation response of copper, lead and zinc ores.- Investigation of the potential use of a Kelsey Jig for processing fine ores including mineral sands, iron ore and concentrates.

Worked on the development and assessment of a low ash coking product for the Steelworks and an energy coal for the export market, to be washed from the Lambton Sub-group coals.•Quality assurance of products from primary rolling mills.•Quality control of teeming operations in the Steelmaking Department, monitoring teeming, ingot additions and mould condition. Ingot "butt" minimisation project.•Quality control of finished steel products, work included hardness testing, tensile testing and metallography.•Float and sink testing coal samples, sample preparation size analysis, batch flotation tests, sampling from stockpiles, conveyor belts, etc.Washability testing (bulk samples and bore cores)-Conducting plant efficiency surveys at the Steelworks washery and troubleshooting problems.Operation of 500 kg coke oven to investigate techniques for improving blast furnace coke quality through improved coal blending, preparation and charging practices.
