I am a teacher educator, a copy writer and a published author of historical fiction. My first book, "Flight from Vienna," has been published and is available from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Flight-From-Vienna-Peter-Auer/dp/0615980198 The historical novel is a love story set during the early years of the Holocaust in Vienna, Austria. It has a very exciting ending. It is the first book in a trilogy. The second book "Exiled in Palestine" is about Rudi and Lili Auer making their home in an alien land against a backdrop of fighting between Palestinians and the British, Arabs and Jews and a small group of Germans, (some of them Nazis) not getting on with either Arabs nor Jews. At the outbreak of WWII, Rudi is interned and soon thereafter also Lili, now pregnant. A son is born during internment. At the end of 1940 the Auer family is herded via bus, train and ferry onto a troop ship- the Queen Elizabeth and set for sail to an unknown destination.My third book "Interned in Tatura" finds the Auer family interned in Tatura in a 'Friendly Enemy Alien Camp' (1940 -1946) where conditions at the beginning are primitive and less than friendly. A mainly German inhabited camp, run largely by members of the Nazi Party, displays some anti-Semitism, adding to the feelings of displacement, alienation and tension. There are frequent skirmishes between inmates. There are many attempts to escape. A man is found hanged shortly after the news of Hitler's suicide. My current book project "The Letter Openers" is about the work of the censors of correspondence and packages in and out of POW camps during World War II. Who are these people? Who employs them? To whom are they accountable? What stories do they share? What secrets do they uncover?
