Researched and developed an evidence-based cost-effective public health initiative focused on diarrheal diseases, for implementation in rural villages in Northern Laos.Engaged with multiple stakeholders, including hospital directors, community leaders, and field managers to implement the public health initiative that I pitched to the Foundation.Developed visual aids for village schoolchildren and teachers to encourage behavioral change (hygiene practices such as hand washing and using soap) that would reduce the burden of diarrheal diseases.

Working in a behavioural neuroscience laboratory at VUW, I conducted research aimed at developing a novel pre-clinical model of autism. My thesis included behavioural, biochemical, and immunological research. Completing my thesis gave me several key transferable skills, including: excellent analytical, critical, and strategic thinking skills; the ability to communicate (written or verbal) technically complex material to a variety of audiences; the ability to analyse large, complex, and varied data sets; and project management skills that come with designing and implementing a long-term independent and innovative project.

I was solely responsible for the academic facet of the NZBA’s goal of producing successful student-athletes. My role involved speaking to aspiring student-athletes about the importance of education, time-management, and completing their SAT exams for entrance into American Universities. My objectives were to promote the value of academic success and to help athletes and their parents understand the academic requirements for NCAA eligibility. This role required extensive public speaking and interpersonal skills.

I worked for three months in the Department of Pharmacological Sciences under Professor Marco Riva. I learned how to analyse DNA using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The research I conducted in Milan was related to my PhD thesis and involved investigating the biochemical outcomes of an animal model of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This research placement required the ability to analyse large complex quantitative data sets and learn dense information quickly.
