The physical basis is then applied to other process such as oil spill, SAR, climate change effects and adaptation and ecological modelling to provide operational and risk based management advice and services.Geographically the areas of focus are the North Atlantic and Polar Ocean, with a special focus on the North Sea, the Baltic and the Greenland and Faroese waters - additional areas are covered on add-hoc basis using the extensive monitoring network, remote sensing and the flexible suite of models for both ocean and coastal dynamics.To provide these services COI uses and develops the experiences, tools and methods developed over the long history of DMI, the operation of the ice-services in Narsarsuaq for more than 50 years, and the extensive international collaboration with other institutes, universities and private stakeholders.Specifically COI and DMI specializes in the combination of remote sensing techniques, in-situ observations, practical field experience and seamanship, data processing and analysis, along with both ocean, meterological, and combined numerical models.
