BLE, Node-RED, Mosquitto (MQTT), Influx DB, Grafana, NginX - all running in an Edge Device (Rpi 4)

Created an IoT solution for industrial scale hydroponic farming that involves RFID tagging of individual plants, monitoring CO2 concentration, Lux, Temperature, Humidity and intrusion detection. Building capability to monitor all parts of the operation from HTML5, CSS3 dashboards. Solution will be cloud based. For this project, Performed Risk Assessment, Defined Architecture, conducted Design, Development, vendor selection and product selection. R&D involved purchasing and testing many, many sensors for quality, longevity, price and ease of deployment. Developed IoT Temperature Monitoring Solution using BLE Battery powered sensors with a six year lifespan reporting data in real time to a low cost Edge computing gateway which then connects to a Cloud based back end. Built all supporting material and code. All code based on Open Source Projects with integration layers written in C++, JavaScript, Python and Swift (for iOS Interfaces).Developed an industrial monitoring solution for worker safety that included Temperature, Humidity, Lux and Particulate Monitoring using a Linux based Edge gateway.Development included developing Edge Computing capability in a low cost gateway, testing eSIM’s for connectivity to an on-prem IoT cloud based on IBM’s MQTT technology.Created Enablement materials for educating sales force and technical sales both internally and for Channel Partners in the Telco marketplace in the USA, Canada and LATAM.

During 2017-2018 Developed an IoT Sensor Solution for IBM. Negotiated with Product Management, Legal, Marketing and senior management for a product using the IBM Watson Cloud.At IBM, was considered to be one of IBM’s leading Thought Leaders in The Internet Of Things marketplace, with extensive experience in architecting novel solutions that marry new sensor and radio technologies to existing business systems. Was instrumental in winning IoT Business at Ford after developing a proof of concept that showed exactly how a native iPhone app could be used to unlock and start a vehicle via the IBM Cloud using the MQTT protocol. For this solution that included MQTT remote controlled cars, was awarded an IBM “Outstanding Technical Achievement” award. The solution is in production at Ford.Was instrumental in winning Electrolux as an IBM Cloud IoT customer after writing the initial code for three weeks in Charlotte NC that MQTT enabled Electrolux’ chosen vendor hardware (Broadcom Wiced). The initial PoC used a toy microwave hacked to include the MQTT protocol. This solution is in production.Deployed the same methodology used to win Whirlpool using the Marvel chipset (WiFi SOC) after many sessions with Whirlpool engineers in Benton Harbor MI. This solution is in production.Other projects involved IoT with MQTT to connect disparate devices – ranging from Mousetraps to Forklift trucks, using a variety of radio technologies including LoRa, Z-Wave, Zigbee, 802.15.4, Class 1, Gen 2 UHF RFID and sub-gigahertz radio technologies.
