During my studies at The University of Maine, I designed a self-sustainable system to grow nutrient-dense plants in a microgravity environment, measuring the impact of orbital environmental factors such as microgravity, radiation, pressure, and varying thermal conditions on the growth of plants.I also spent time in The Mason Laboratory where I performed research and development under Dr. Michael D. Mason for a point-of-care device used to accurately determine the relative stage of cancer for metastatic pancreatic cysts using non-invasive, microliter volumes of fluid in a microcapillary viscometer. This included redesigning the physical device to improve both its functionality and sensitivity, and rewriting the LabView script to enhance data and image analysis. In March of 2019, I presented this work at the BMES/FDA Frontiers in Medical Devices Conference, where I received praise among a crowd of post-doctoral and industry officials.
