• Researching and ensuring that Bank of Valletta will be able to tap into Malta’s EUR 1.2 billion Structural and Cohesion Funds for the 2014 – 2020 Programming Period. Participated in the consultation process conducted by the authorities and brought down European Investment Fund expertise. • Prime mover in ensuring a successful implementation of the first EU loan guarantee scheme in Malta with a portfolio of EUR 51 million. Built on the great success attained this, is being further topped up with another EUR 12 million. JEREMIE Malta has been seen as a best case study model for other EU Member States. • Actively involved in assisting the Bank tap into EU Centralised funds through the drafting and negotiation process of a loan guarantee scheme. • Accountable for leading a team of one manager and two research analysts to handle research on enhancing the access to finance for SMEs through EU financing opportunities, the development of related products and services. This also involves the identification of market opportunities and handling customer requests and the organisation of information sessions on a regular basis. • Ensuring that EUR 100 million worth of EU Rural Development funds are handled through the Bank and developing related financing opportunities to maximise on the benefits that end user operators attain.

• I am actively involved in the Bank’s Payments Strategy Core Team. This project team is responsible for the restructuring of the Bank’s strategy and operations as a result of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) project and the transposition of the Payments Services Directive (PSD) into national banking law. • For the last eight years, I have presented the Maltese Banking Community on the European Payments Council. The European Payments Council based in Brussels is responsible for the rolling out of the SEPA project and drafting of the rule books and frameworks in conjunction with European Institutions such as the ECB and DG Competition and DG Internal Market.

Following the financial crisis within the European Union in 2008, the dossiers that I actively pursued were, namely:• The field of supervision with the creation of the new European Central Bank’s additional function with the Banking Union (Single Supervisor Mechanism) project, the establishment of the European Stability Mechanism, the revamping of the financial services legislative framework particularly the BASEL III Accord (CRD VI) and the establishment of the new regulatory agencies;• Analysing the developments taking place in the European and international financial markets;• The European Central Bank’s monetary policy decision within the on-going crisis and the launching of the longer-term refinancing operations, to ensure that there was enough liquidity within the pan European financial markets; and• Development within the area of the EU taxation policy which included the Taxation of Savings Income Directive and the exchange of information amongst other initiatives.
