About Peter Schmidtke

With a very strong background in structural bioinformatics, structure based drug design and molecular dynamics, I am interested in starting long term development & research projects. I have a broad interest in different research areas like structural biology, systems biology and chemoinformatics and am generally associating research work to development of novel software.My programming expertise encompasses numerous programming languages (especially Python, C & SVL + an ounce of JAVA, PHP, Javascript ...) and I am also an advanced user & programmer of commonly used workflow software like Pipeline Pilot & Knime. During my spare free time I invest a fair amount of effort on further developing the successful fpocket software I wrote a few years back together with Vincent Le Guilloux. Today fpocket is widely used throughout the world and as such a very successful open source project. Next to a wide-spread use in academics, fpocket can also be found in several biotech and pharmaceutical companies for druggability assessment. I am always open for new opportunities & projects, so feel free to contact me for any query regarding putative projects together or any question about my profile.

    Qualification : Excelente cum laudeDuring my PhD I have been involved in structure based drug design methods development projects (and their application). A focus of my research was set on binding site prediction and characterization. Using the open source program fpocket, a pocket database of the whole PDB was constructed and is currently used to profile new targets, validate new protein target families, mainly via a published druggability prediction method implemented into fpocket. Lately I am working on two major projects, (i) the development of a pocket comparison method and its usage as idea generator for drug design purposes and (ii) the development and validation of a new type of docking scoring function.Next to theoretical research I also gave several practicals in general chemistry and physical chemistry at the University of Barcelona.
