I have had the good fortune of building a solid career in municipal securities and information technology that has spanned three industries where I have been simultaneously a regular practitioner, innovator, teacher, entrepreneur, collaborator, and senior executive.My most formative years were spent well at top firms in the securities and financial insurance industries where I had great mentoring and the freedom to explore and ‘spread my wings.’ At First Boston I laid a solid foundation as a municipal credit analyst with the emphasis on computer simulation and modeling. Then at Prescott, Ball & Turben I was an institutional salesman before becoming Director of Fixed Income Research. Then it was on to Financial Guaranty Insurance Company (FGIC) where I was COO and in charge of all muni risk underwriting, IT, marketing and sales, and rating agency relations.Next came two years in the first company I co-founded, Acevedo, Schmitt & Co., Inc., that was a registered advisor to the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) before three other investors and I formed DPC DATA Inc., the company I led as CEO and Chairman for the next 22 years.DPC DATA supplies disclosure data and services to municipal dealers and the institutional buy-side. In addition to my overall executive duties, I was chief product and content strategist, and headed up product research and analyst training. I personally managed outsourcing, off-shoring, and eventually re-shoring critical business functions through automation, especially data analytics and text mining. I have had many speaking engagements before securities industry, regulatory agency, and trade association groups, and been extensively quoted in over 50 newspapers and magazines including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and BusinessWeek, as well as on-air radio and TV interviews with NPR, CNN, and Bloomberg. In 2009 I was a featured speaker at the International Outsourcing Summit held in Manila, Philippines.
