Construction of three Metro deep stations. Liaison between remote project management and design office, the client, multiple sub-contractors and local authorities.

Glostrup, Copenhagen And Hardanger Fjord Norway

Starting in January 2010 I have been a project engineer involved in the construction of the Hardanger bridge across the Hardanger Fjord near Voss, Norway. I am responsible for procurement and fabrication of all equipment to enable the spinning of the bridge suspension cables. This includes production of technical documentation and Method Statements for the actual spinning operation.

Starting in July 2008 I was the Construction Manager for Milbury Systems. Milbury design and produce various pre-cast products for commercial and industrial uses. I have been responsible for all aspects of the installation process. Primarily this covers on site planning and management. My critical task is to engage with the client from the start and ensure the progress of the project is completed to programme and to the clients satisfaction. I am responsible for writing or approving Method Statements, Risk Assessments and as built documentation. In addition I was also responsible for pricing of installation projects and design liaison with clients.

During this period I was again involved in the Princesshay Project in the centre of Exeter. I have project managed the production of an as-built programme and a detailed project narrative to show the effect and monetary value of all variations, delay, and extra preliminaries in order to provide the information required for an adjudication and claim process against the main contractor for the Princesshay development.

Site Contracts Manager, Princesshay, Exeter, Michael Thorne Construction The Princesshay development is a combination of retail and residential blocks adjacent to the high street in Exeter City Centre. As the Contracts Manager for one of the main Sub-Contractors on site, I have been responsible for the construction of all reinforced concrete slabs, walls, and upstands on the blocks that are within our scope of works. My main responsibilities on this project have included:• Management of the construction of all concrete elements to program and to the required quality.• Supervision of the 50 tradesmen and sub-contractors under my control.• Responsible for Heath and Safety, Site Inductions and all project quality documentation.• To represent the company in weekly site progress meetings.• Responsible for costs and expenditure. Total project value is approximately £2.5 million

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The major project in Dubai during this time was the expansion of Dubai International Airport. Al Naboodah Laing O’Rourke was the sole contractor tasked with construction and delivery of the Civil Works package. The total concrete quantity poured was 2,500,000 m3 in approximately 2 years. A secondary project, the construction of the “Burj Dubai Commercial Island” was also been within my scope of work. For both projects I reported directly to the Gulf Area Concrete Quality Engineer. My principle responsibilities for both projects included:• Monitoring of all “on-site” temperature controlled concrete quality, in an extremely harsh and aggressive environment. (Daytime temperatures up to 45oC).• Documenting the quality of all concrete constituent materials and aggregates used on the project.• Provision of technical materials advice to the project construction teams.• Supervision of a large site compliance testing laboratory consisting of approximately 60 concrete testing technicians.• Concrete mix design in liaison with the dedicated site readymix concrete plant team.• Presentation and reporting of all concrete testing results to the project supervision engineers

The Copenhagen Metro Construction Group was a Multinational Joint Venture Consortium. The project involved the construction of a Metro system of approximately 18 km length, including 13 km of bored tunnels, with the remaining sections comprising viaducts and reinforced soil embankments. In addition, there were six deep stations, numerous shallow or above ground stations, and approximately ten emergency/ventilation shafts. My principle responsibilities included:• Management of a large concrete compliance testing laboratory, and a multinational workforce.• Provision of technical materials advice to our designer, and to all personnel within COMET construction team.• Monitoring and documenting the quality of materials used on the contract.• Liaison with, and provision of technical advice to, the client’s representative, the COMET construction team, and our Sub-contractors and suppliers in all quality matters.• Solving technical concrete problems and challenges.
