Founding member and director of engineering at Poseidon Robotics, an ROV that aims to bring 21st century technology to the remotely operated vehicle market.After years working in the ROV industry, it was time to stop servicing other vehicles and to start designing and marketing our own systems. "How hard can it be?" Plenty hard, but if it were easy it wouldn't have been fun and the first sale wouldn't have had any meaning. Most of us haven't had a year under 4,000 hours worked and it's been an uphill battle. Plenty of projects have seen us work all day, through the night, and into the following afternoon, and the miles driven to trade shows and customer demos have been extraordinary, but that's not what we think about.We jumped in and built a successful company. Now we've been reaping the rewards as we continue to grow, to ship more and better product, and to expand our knowledge and capabilities. Personally, I have learned more in the last 4 years (not always the easy way) than I likely could have in 20 years working as an employee anywhere else.ROV system design, electromechanical integration, geotechnical sensor development, 4,000 meter rated telemetry systems, hydraulic packages, and who knows what other products we'll have the chance to make in the future.
