The purpose of this thesis was to ferment brown juice, a sugary green leaf extract, low in protein, to produce a single cell protein (SCP) product. The work involved; (i) Analyzing the brown juice for its nutritional content, (ii) Performing a literature study to select a number of potential candidates of the microbial growth,(iii) Screening the candidates.

The purpose of the thesis was to produce protein variants in cells for characterization and comparison to the wild type version. The thesis was a part of an overall project with the aim of producing absolute quantitative protein data, in real time, on living cells.
