Light Sheet Microscope• Constructed a state of the art microscope from salvage capable of acquiring large volumetric image data sets of the entire mouse brain at single neuron resolution at frame rates up to 40 fps.• Modified source code in Java to build image stitching modules for an image processing pipeline.• Aligned free space optics to create a uniform light sheet by discovering two additional alignment mirrors present in the system.CAD/CAM and method development• Designed and simulated a precision translation stage system capable of micron accuracy movement of samples along three axes using CAD.• Manufactured stage components from ABS plastic and aluminum using 3D printing and CNC milling and constructed the stage system.• Produced a sample mounting technique by refining the chemistry of a refractive index matching resin and creating a robust silicone mold.

Delayed-choice quantum eraser• Built a delayed-choice quantum eraser by erasing a particle’s polarization information after theirreversible detection of that particle in an interferometer.• Utilized free space and fiber couple optics to extend the optical path length and introduce a 20 ns delay between the signals of the interferometer.Experimental quantum measurement theory• Utilized weak quantum measurements to gather data to simultaneously measure presence andpolarization of ensemble single photons allowing for observation of the Quantum Cheshire Cat effect.• Modified a free space Sagnac interferometer to achieve a beam separation of 1 cm while maintaining equal optical path lengths.• Documented procedure and findings for publication and to allow future recreation and expansion of experiments.

Worked as an intern during the summer for four years.Engineered a process for mechanical analysis of a melt spray congeal process to pinpoint the source of high frequency vibrations through the use of acoustic vibrometers and accelerometers. This allowed for a noninvasive method for modelling the vibration frequencies that were causing non-uniform microbead production.Performed troubleshooting and failure analysis of an encapsulation apparatus to create a preliminary user manual. This allowed for the production of uniformly filled capsules with a small variation. To ensure that the user could make adjustments to the process as needed, tests were performed at varying temperature, humidity, and product type to discover the correct order of adjustments to bring the process to uniformity.Assisted in the construction, installation, and over all setup of spray dry equipment and spray dry suites including working on pneumatic systems and chamber viewing to allow for efficient operation for scale up production. Worked in fabrication to machine and polish equipment components for pharmaceutic grade use.
