Working for two divisions of the company which operate in different industries means that whilst the activities required appear similar the equipment being worked on is quite different. My work has taken me around the world I have been to China, Europe, Japan, Mexico, South America, Thailand and the U.S.A..The ProSim division makes wear testing equipment for prosthetic joints, modern machines are completely electromechanical however older machines were usually pneumatic and occasionally hydraulic, typical customers would be universities and medical development facilities. The Inspection systems division makes glass inspection equipment for use in high volume sheet glass production, most of which is camera based.𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗶𝗺 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻➤Bench Calibration of loadcells➤Factory/site commissioning, calibration, and installation of machines➤Wiring of electrical panels, controls, and cabinets➤Writing of Manuals for New Machines➤Diagnosing faults, providing workarounds, discussing possible ways forwards with customers to find the solution that best suits them➤Producing quotes for repairs (parts and labour)➤Assisting the software development team though onsite testing➤Writing maintenance and installation reports➤Upgrading machines, updating the manuals and electrical drawings following a change𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻➤Electrical design of a glass thickness gauge with three axes of motion which reports the thickness, temperature, and stress level in glass on the production line working to EN60204➤Electrical installation of thickness gauges (with two-three axes of movement)➤Complete onsite rewire of an electrical cabinet following an upgrade➤Installation, calibration, and maintenance of “Eagle-I” (camera-based glass plate inspection systems)➤Calibration of “IQ” (A camera-based machine for measuring the quantity powder on the glass)

Initially a three-month contract, extended to six months this role was incredibly varied:➤Assisted with the design of a multi-channel Fibre Optic Rotary Joint (FORJ)➤Designed a FORJ test unit – Checking light throughput; whilst rotating, when fed a constant level of light, included circuit PCB and casing; had to be compatible with existing PC interface (Pico Logger ADC20)➤Maintenance and use of EXFO FTB400 Ethernet and Fibre network test system➤Negotiated with suppliers➤Fault diagnosis and repair of electrical systems in factory machinery➤Selection of new oscilloscope suitable for the development of a 1GB/s Media Converter➤Assisting with the evaluation of computing solutions and disaster recovery methods put forward by external companies➤Demonstration of BGB technologies to customers and external consultants➤Producing Bill of Materials (BoM) for designs completed by myself➤Creating and tracking orders from BoMs produced by myself or external consultants➤Designed a high powered variable linear power supply for soak testing of media converters
