Director of the Blacksburg office of the Virginia Tech Center for Geospatial Information Technology. Responsible for all vision, strategy, innovation, management and technical functions for the Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIT) as the lead faculty member overseeing the Blacksburg campus research center. As director and lead scientist, developed CGIT into a highly innovative and applied research organization.

VSDC is a multi-institutional collaborative effort led by Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech,supported by the Virginia Research Innovation Fund (VRIF). We deliver accessible and collaborativeplatforms to explore data user ecosystems, and to cultivate a community to develop, sustain, and grow data-driven initiatives for societal benefit. Specific goals for our first year of operation include: establishing VSDC's place in the commonwealth’s data ecosystem, and solidifying ethics of data-based sharing, collaboration, and integration within the community. The connections created by the VSDC will create pathways to democratize SmallSat data and crowd-source payload requirements, improving efficiency and productivity of the innovation ecosystem.The purpose of the board is to provide expert guidance on the development of VSDC, participate inopportunities to contribute valuable datasets, define problems that VSDC can contribute to solving, and assure that our data solutions and initiatives grow the Virginia economy and improve the lives of everyday Virginians. Board members will have opportunities to build strategic relationships, influence VSDC processes and technologies, and have early access to datasets, problems, and platforms. Board member input will help VSDC grow data-ready workforces, which will position Virginia as a leader in 21st-century commerce and innovation. Board members help to advance data capabilities for years to come by advising state agencies on innovative data and space policies.

External consultant for CACI-Athena on a project for the US Army National Ground Intelligence Center’s Facilities, Infrastructure and Engineering Systems (FIRES) Program. Lead author on a Roadmap paper that led to >$30M contract for CACI.

Through the USGS supported AmericaView Program, developed the VirginiaView Statewide remote sensing consortium for research, education, and outreach through partnerships between Virginia Tech (VT), University of Virginia (UVA), Old Dominion University (ODU), and James Madison University (JMU)

Developed field research, informational guides (PMG), decision support systems for state-wide Integrated pest management. Post 9/11 focus on applied epidemiology and biosecurity, surveillance systems, and modeling of complex systems for National scale plant biosecurity (National Plant Diagnostic Network, USDA-APHIS, DHS, etc).
