Deliver a module on sketching, sketch model making and the creative process through demonstration and learning by doing. Along the way expose students to design principles, practice, history, heroes & practitioners, materials, processes and thinking.

Communication in Design to 3rd year Product Design students covering visualisation and presentation of work at all stages in a design process. Lots of sketch visualisation demonstrations of course - including old school marker sketching. Also a day of sketch modelling with 2nd year students.

Starting in about 1998 I advised Robin Selden, then Logitech's VP for corporate marketing, and more recently David Henry, then CMO, on design strategy, surface strategy (colour, finish & materials on product) and representation of the brand through product.Logitech went through a brand review programme with Landor, as part of its ambition to become a compelling consumer brand, and I directed the development of a design language framework through concept studies, multimedia presentations and workshops as the first stage in establishing identity through product. This was a challenging exercise considering the diversity of product categories and of consumers that Logitech aims to engage. Cathal Loughnane & Marcel Twohig at Design Partners were indispensable creative support and Chuck Seiber at Logitech was a driving force on the client side.

Tutored final year degree students and acted as internal assessor for the class of 1997 at the invitation of Paul Fortune - head of ID at NCAD. Visiting lecturer on ID and visualisation to 2nd year degree students in 1998 and 1999.

Philip Kenny offered me a chance to be whatever I wanted to be.I figured out how to be a designer at Blackbox and had an epiphany or two thanks to a couple of golden opportunities to do proactive work.Most of the work was in the housewares category with a bit of 'start up' and medical device work along the way.It was an opportunity to work alongside graphic designers and to work again with a couple of brilliant modelmakers - Donal Ryan and Richard Howe who I first met at Design ID.

Internship as part of degree programme.Worked under Bryan Leech, senior designer who taught me simple rules of good design - such as odd numbers are better than even because your eye is drawn to the centre feature - and introduced me to gin and tonics and Guigaro. I visited Design ID before deciding on industrial design and met two key people - Philip Kenny - who went on to set up Blackbox Design and Gearoid O Chonchubair - later lecturer at the National College of Art and Design.
