This role included designing & implementing new capacity planning processes and additional monitoring of the company infrastructure. This enabled Student Loans Company to size new and existing infrastructure to meet the company’s application and business requirements. These new processes created capacity reports and capacity plans to further improve the ICT systems overview and produced recommendations to improve services before any SLA breaches and stop systems running out of resources. These reports also showed the utilisation of external links and help identify where upgrades or system reconfigurations were required.The main systems used to create the reports & add extra monitoring are BMC Performance Manager (like Microsoft MOM) and BMC Dashboard. The work was all accomplished following ITIL V3 change & configuration management processes. As part of this role I worked closely with the network & server team to design & implement the recommendations of the capacity reports.

The main role was to administer, troubleshoot and manage the Council’s Windows 2003 Servers, Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange 2003 infrastructure at all levels using standard GUI, advanced command line tools, VBScripts and Powershell Scripts. This included all proactive management and design changes required for DNS / WINS / DHCP and designed new AD structure and new group policies. Managing McAfee EPO Server and policies to install software and ensuring server/desktop AV clients were up-to-date and correctly configured. Group policy setup and design for software, profile restrictions and security settings. PowerShell & VBscripting to automate and ease admin tasks and create login scripts. Design and building of new Windows 2003 Servers, physical, or virtualised using VMWare Infrastructure V3.5, following Council policies. Management of Citrix farm and servers. Setup and administration of Council Blackberry’s via BES Server and policies. Enterprise Vault user setup and administration for Archiving Exchange 2003 Mail. User data & Shared Data Windows Shares, migrations to new and consolidated servers and decommission of old file servers. The Council recently created new VMWare ESX farm and part of this role was managing and maintaining VMWare Infrastructure V3.5, including using VI Client for VMware High Availability and Distributed Resource Scheduler setup. I created, built and configured additional ESX Servers and setup new IBM SAN LUNs including masking for the VMs. Install and setup new IBM server blades for ESX servers. I migrated about 40 Windows Servers P2V (Physical to Virtual) as part of the server consolidation process.

Technical architect and IT project engineer for Magnox North, IT technical design authority for whole Magnox North Company, (about 1500 employees and 5 major sites). This role included setting up and project managing new IT computer / server projects using Prince 2 methodology. Identifying and involving senior user and senior suppliers, coordinate and mange 3rd parties. Administer SMS 2003, create, test and deploy packages to servers and desktops. Image admin & deployment for Servers & Desktops using Altiris and PXE boot. Using McAfee Anti-virus EPO server to install, configure and check McAfee Clients. Microsoft ISA 2004 Server setup and rules config for companywide internet Access and permissions. Group policy design, test & setup to meet security requirements. Some VBscripting for login scripts and migration tasks. Provided initiatives to improve infrastructure, have greater return on investment and reduce total cost of ownership. Authorise system admin changes and change control for all IT server systems and privilege user rights. Support all Windows Servers systems at 3rd and 4th line. Liaise with suppliers on technical issues and systems upgrades. Ensure all changes correctly created, produced, follow ITIL standards and follow tight change control procedures and processes. Problem management of escalated calls, to ensure proper fixes and identify problem source and resolve.

Successfully planned and implemented an Active Directory migration of 1000 users, computers and 50 Window 2000 Servers, from multiple Windows NT domains to a new single Windows 2003 Domain. This was achieved by using ADMT, VBscripting, PowerShell and other Microsoft tools and scripts, then the NT domains were collapsed and servers decommissioned. Successfully tested, planned and implemented 3500 users’ migration from multiple Exchange 5.5 organisations to new Exchange 2003 organisation, using Exchange tools. I migrated 200 users as test users and after successful testing, migrated the remainder . The migration was successful and subsequently decommissioned the Exchange 5.5 system and servers. I had to rewrite users Active Directory information; like address, dept title, names etc, as another system used the Active Directory information. The directory synchronisation from Exchange 5.5 to AD 2003 over wrote the correct AD info with old out dated Exchange directory info. I rewrote the AD info using VBscripts, DOS commands and output from a previous script to retrieve user information.

The main role was providing 3rd line support to help provide solutions working under new XP / 2003 environment and problem management of calls being investigated by other teams. Also investigate and resolve HP Radia Delivery Package problems. Checking and testing Group Policy settings for new environment. Another part of the role, I was technical lead support for new service desk for migration to new XP environment.

The main part of the role was technical lead to solve problems with migrating 1000 users and computers from Windows 2000 to XP and implement a new desktop build. There was numerous information forms required for migrating users, so I created multiple Excel macros and VB scripts to automate process of migrating data and form filling.
