At the invitation of the founders, provide guidance and assistance to Adaptation Leader, a recently formed nonprofit organization focused on providing strategy, research, and advisory services to organizations needing to better understand and take action on climate adaptation. Climate adaptation on a wide scale is both extremely urgent and overdue. Adaptation Leader works with organizational leaders to help them understand climate risks, evaluate and quantify the benefits of alternative actions to reduce these risks, and design and implement appropriate strategies to preserve assets, improve resilience, and capture opportunities.

After previous success as an executive and program manager excelling at dozens of organizational improvement consulting projects, I was recruited by PwC to solidify and grow portions of its Public Sector Practice to the next level. Within a short period of time, I developed new relationships and opportunities for PwC in underserved federal agencies, and played crucial roles in creating several high-profile proposals that secured new contract wins.

In this position, I assumed leadership of a five year EPA contract with a broad scope but very little activity. Through my efforts to develop new relationships and prove our capabilities, we were able to establish credibility and trust within the client organization. Moreover, as a result of my development efforts and skillful management of all projects performed under the contract, we were able to successfully complete several dozen management consulting projects. During my tenure, we built the contract from nearly no revenue to more than $1M annually.

While there, I served as a member of the corporate staff, developing/implementing strategies for organizational change and national business expansion and diversification. My particular focus was on formulating and launching an innovative “business sustainability” services initiative, which continued for many years following my departure from the firm.

I was recruited by the President of Tetra Tech EM to serve as Vice President of DC Operations, with full P&L responsibility for a major office (85 professional and support staff) of this large engineering/ consulting services firm. While there, I directed all aspects of operations, administration, and business development, including finance; strategic planning; staff recruitment, development, and performance evaluation; sales/marketing; and project execution. I orchestrated an aggressive operations turnaround, creating a new strategic planning process, reinvigorated a marketing focus, and retooled internal functions. These efforts enabled us to surpass several corporate financial goals, improve efficiency, and stabilize a previous high rate of staff attrition.

At ICF, I laid the groundwork for a compelling new set of service offerings and, over time, a growing U.S. Strategic Environmental Management practice. By leveraging the firm's deep expertise in environmental policy, I led a successful effort to branch out into the then nascent field of environmental/EHS management consulting. Through our efforts, we built relationships with new clients, developed projects in entirely new service areas, and generated substantial revenue streams for the company. I also directed pioneering research articulating the connections between corporate environmental improvements and stock prices. This research attracted world-wide interest and helped put ICF "on the map" as a provider of sophisticated environmental management services. We then developed a suite of compelling new services, tools, and other intellectual capital. During my tenure at ICF, I delivered training sessions and workshops on multiple topics, including corporate finance and governance, performance measurement, and business development. In addition, as an executive in the Environmental Consulting Group, I helped manage business operations, strategy, and human resource issues. For example, I helped resolve long-standing employee morale concerns and motivate company staff by spearheading development of new promotion guidelines.
