I am an innovative and accomplished senior environmental management/sustainability professional. I am particularly interested in applying emerging management frameworks and information management methods to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, quality, resilience, and sustainability of internal operations and client services. For more than 20 years I have had the good fortune to have brought distinct value to a diverse array of government agencies, leading corporations, law and professional services firms, and non-profits. I continue to be energized by new opportunities to positively influence the management practices of organizations both large and small.Prior to founding my own successful consulting business, I served in executive and director positions in two publicly traded professional services companies. Throughout my career, I have achieved consistent success in forming and managing teams of 2 – 20+ professionals and performing cutting-edge research and analysis; developing novel methods, procedures, and tools; and producing actionable findings, strategies, and recommendations. Innovative work products, advice, and publications prepared by me or under my direction have positively influenced the thinking, strategies, behaviors, and performance of organizations in many industries and sectors of the U.S. economy. I have supplemented the knowledge and insights gained through years of management consulting by investing in developing and applying new skills. I hold (or have recently held) professional certifications in project management (PMP), IT (CompTIA Network+, Security+), Agile methods (ICAgile, Certified Scrum Master), and Data Science.I am a sought-after public speaker and author who has published two critically-acclaimed books on organizational sustainability, and scores of published book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, original research studies, training/guidance documents, formal reports to the U.S. Congress, magazine articles, and other written works.Although I have had the opportunity to work with a very diverse set of organizations and on many different issues, I have had a life-long interest in the natural environment, human health and well-being, and the evolving concept of sustainability. Many of my most treasured accomplishments and most of my published writings address one or more of these inter-related domains.

Self-Employed Environmental Management/Sustainability ConsultantSoyka & Company Llc Jul 2003 - PresentVienna, VaFor nearly 20 years I have consistently delivered value to federal agencies, major corporations, small businesses, law and other professional services firms, and trade and professional associations by developing targeted management programs, strategies, analyses, models and tools, guidance and training, and other vital work products that ensure the attainment of client objectives. Examples include the following:• As a retained consultant to a major technology company, catalyzed new thinking and approaches needed to secure two must-win $50 million+ multi-year public sector contracts.• Prevented major misallocation of capital and acceptance of unnecessary new liabilities by building new models, assembling data from diverse sources, and analyzing and interpreting results.• Prevented/delayed costly and disruptive changes in national environmental regulations by performing detailed regulatory, quantitative, and financial analysis and using results to counteract inaccurate claims.• Catalyzed enhanced credibility and visibility and promising new relationships between senior federal environmental agency staff and “Wall Street” by forming and leading a team of experts in supporting a cross-agency working group. • Performed site audits, developed business cases, and provided key insights and analysis used to reinvigorate/retool existing EHS audit, resource management, and measurement and reporting programs.• Improved management practices by coordinating strategy as well as a governance and operational transition for a multi-agency federal/state environmental initiative. Directed formulation of performance metrics and executive dashboards.• Developed a concept piece central to a successful public relations campaign mounted by three trade associations.• Raised awareness of important emerging environmental, sustainability, and business issues in mid-career and executive audiences through developing and delivering customized trainings on complex topics. -

ManagerPwc Sep 2012 - Oct 2013Mclean, VaAfter previous success as an executive and program manager excelling at dozens of organizational improvement consulting projects, I was recruited by PwC to solidify and grow portions of its Public Sector Practice to the next level. Within a short period of time, I developed new relationships and opportunities for PwC in underserved federal agencies, and played crucial roles in creating several high-profile proposals that secured new contract wins. -
Program Manager, Environmental ServicesNative American Management Services, Inc. 2003 - 2007Reston, VaIn this position, I assumed leadership of a five year EPA contract with a broad scope but very little activity. Through my efforts to develop new relationships and prove our capabilities, we were able to establish credibility and trust within the client organization. Moreover, as a result of my development efforts and skillful management of all projects performed under the contract, we were able to successfully complete several dozen management consulting projects. During my tenure, we built the contract from nearly no revenue to more than $1M annually. -
Director, Strategic Environmental ServicesGeotrans, Inc. Dec 2001 - Nov 2002Sterling, VaIn late 2001, I assumed the newly created position of Director, Strategic Environmental Services for GeoTrans, Inc., based on my strong background and reputation. While there, I served as a member of the corporate staff, developing/implementing strategies for organizational change and national business expansion and diversification. My particular focus was on formulating and launching an innovative “business sustainability” services initiative, which continued for many years following my departure from the firm.

Vice President Of Dc OperationsTetra Tech Em Inc. Sep 2000 - Nov 2001Reston, VaI was recruited by the President of Tetra Tech EM to serve as Vice President of DC Operations, with full P&L responsibility for a major office (85 professional and support staff) of this large engineering/ consulting services firm. While there, I directed all aspects of operations, administration, and business development, including finance; strategic planning; staff recruitment, development, and performance evaluation; sales/marketing; and project execution. I orchestrated an aggressive operations turnaround, creating a new strategic planning process, reinvigorated a marketing focus, and retooled internal functions. These efforts enabled us to surpass several corporate financial goals, improve efficiency, and stabilize a previous high rate of staff attrition.

Vice PresidentIcf May 1993 - Sep 2000Fairfax, VaAt ICF, I laid the groundwork for a compelling new set of service offerings and, over time, a growing U.S. Strategic Environmental Management practice. By leveraging the firm's deep expertise in environmental policy, I led a successful effort to branch out into the then nascent field of environmental/EHS management consulting. Through our efforts, we built relationships with new clients, developed projects in entirely new service areas, and generated substantial revenue streams for the company. I also directed pioneering research articulating the connections between corporate environmental improvements and stock prices. This research attracted world-wide interest and helped put ICF "on the map" as a provider of sophisticated environmental management services. We then developed a suite of compelling new services, tools, and other intellectual capital. During my tenure at ICF, I delivered training sessions and workshops on multiple topics, including corporate finance and governance, performance measurement, and business development. In addition, as an executive in the Environmental Consulting Group, I helped manage business operations, strategy, and human resource issues. For example, I helped resolve long-standing employee morale concerns and motivate company staff by spearheading development of new promotion guidelines.
