My office was located directly on a current Engelberth Project, Pondside IV, a new living/learning facility being built for Keene State College. Engelberth's high reputation, as a direct result from their efficient work accompanied by their safety excellence, makes a great secondary learning environment. I am grateful for the opportunity I was given to take what I was still currently learning in the classroom of my last semester in earning my BS in Occupational Safety and Health Applied Sciences, to the field just moments after class dismisses. This concept, I believe, helped me excel towards developing as a Safety Professional in terms of making practical sense of current classwork.Each day I would help Engelberth create and maintain a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors onsite. I enjoyed the struggle to constantly adapt to the consistent job task changes of the construction work environment. Duties included, but were not limited to; conducting daily site inspections; risk-assessments; responsible for giving safety orientations and safety trainings; correcting unsafe actions and conditions; writing safety plans; completing daily safety reports; hazard recognition and analysis; facilitation of weekly safety meetings. I met weekly with project managers, supervisors, foreman, and all workers onsite to discuss my most recent and relevant findings as well as provided possible solutions and suggestions for all . Finally, a unique aspect of my job involved contributing in the process of being the first Engelberth site in NH to receive OSHA's Safety and Health Recognition Program Certification (SHARP). My Safety Team and I work hand in hand with OSHA consultants in order to achieve above and beyond what is recommended of the company in order to keep a safe working environment for all. -
Environmental Health And Safety InternKeene State College Jan 2015 - May 2015Keene, NhI apprenticed Keene State College's Environmental Health and Safety Manager. I was tasked with fulfilling various requirements needing completion by the college in order to provide a safe living, learning, and working atmosphere for all. Such tasks included various inspections of campus utilities, fire suppression devices, and satellite accumulation areas. I also worked with the campus population implementing best safe practices throughout individuals' behaviors and actions, those of which occupy Keene State College from day to day. During this experience I was also involved in working closely with Keene State's Chemical Hygienist. We participated in various projects together such as, but not limited to, establishing and recording survey data in order to measure a concerning issue among students regarding their knowledge of laboratory safety and the training effectiveness. I also accompanied in the testing and analyzing of laboratory fume hoods on campus in order to create a safer, and more energy efficient, learning environment for all to enjoy.
