Managing a consultancy firm that delivered solutions in trading and risk management. The breadth and depth of my experience combined with strong strategic and commercial skills formed the base of my services. The organisations that I worked with were either directly or indirectly impacted by the energy and/or renewables and carbon markets. The carbon permits will be created from re-vegetating heavily degraded areas in Australia. - Complementary agricultural and grazing enterprises will also be added to the carbon trading enterprise.

Responsibilities included:-• Framing the regulatory debate with Federal and State government representatives.• Develop systems and processes to fulfill reporting obligations under the NGER legislation. • Resourcing Carbon department appropriately to manage the financial/risk exposure. • Develop ERM’s marginal abatement cost curve (MACC). • Decoupling expansion from emissions growth.• Maximising any administrative permit allocations from government.• Developing and implementing ERM’s carbon hedging policy including forwards, swaps, secondary markets, CERs and Forestry Offsets.• Developing and implementing ERM’s bidding strategy for the Federal government’s carbon permit auction.

Managed the wholesale electricity trading department for ENERGEX Retail Pty Ltd (Sun Retail PTY LTD). This business was sold to Origin Energy for $1.2billion. This department managed the hedging of all electricity and environmental positions. The sizes of these portfolios were in the top three hedge positions in the National Electricity Market (NEM). The energy expenditure of these portfolios was over $800 million per annum with demand under management exceeding 4,000MW.Contracting this load required active participation in the national electricity wholesale markets, with multiple counterparties. The portfolios consisted of both vanilla and structured transactions.There was considerable development in the front office capability from a tactical and system perspective, which saw consistent improvement in the financial and risk performance of Sun Retail’s wholesale positions. The management of the wholesale costs underpinned actual and forward outcomes that delivered:• Consistent improvement in profitability.• Increased positive earnings embedded in the forward positions.• Compliance within the established Board approved trading and risk policy limits, legal framework, as well as superior risk adjusted returns.
