A relentlessly optimistic and values-driven leader, committed to bring positive change to communities. Whilst I thrive on dreaming up new ideas and pushing projects forward, I am a civil and structural engineer by training so I am also very grounded and realistic, able to look problems and threats squarely in the face and find a way forward despite these. I am not afraid of change, and will drive the change process where this is needed. I have a strong commitment - rooted in my Christian faith - to the highest ethical standards, to excellence, to valuing people highly, and to making a positive difference in the world.Loving working as Chief Exec for St Petrock's Exeter, a local charity supporting and housing rough sleepers in the city, taking up post in November 2021.Outside of work I keep myself joyful and refreshed by walking on Dartmoor and other hilly/mountainous places, and riding a motorbike (Tiger 800 if you're interested) around Devon and Cornwall, and further afield when I get the chance. I'm also a trustee of the church I attend, and a Parish Councillor where I live.Previously, at YMCA Dulverton Group I led on developing new homes for young people at risk of homelessness or unable to access or afford housing in either the private rented sector or social housing. This in turn built on my work with YMCA Heart of England where, in addition to capital development, I was also responsible for overseeing HR, and ensuring the organisation's Christian ethos was reflected in our business and behaviours.Prior to this I led a smaller YMCA, YMCA Exeter, through 9 years of steady growth and development, tripling turnover, broadening the scope, depth and geographical reach of the charity's work, and strengthening its asset base significantly despite the challenging financial and political environment since the 2008 banking crisis. Whilst part of the YMCA, I chaired a national YMCA Development Forum, and previously chaired the national YMCA Task Group overseeing the highly successful rebranding of the YMCA Federation in England and Wales, as well as being on other national strategic steering groups.
