My approach to cases is to help the parties disengage with dignity, as they are parents for a long time. They need to get on with life and not waste time and money having a war. That said, there are times when the behaviour of the other side warrants strong action to protect the client’s rights.I am very involved in a rapidly growing area - Estate Planning generally and particularly for Blended Families. Financial Agreements under Family Law - the Prenup variety - are particularly important in this regard. Do they work? Absolutely, if properly done and they are reasonable.With Greying Australia, parents are wanting more certainty as to where assets will go on their death. Dealing with the issue is a perfect adjunct to Family Law which is, after all forced estate planning. De facto and same sex relationships are now treated the same way as married couples. All the more reason for Estate planners to explore the issues carefully. There are options. For example an adult child could enter into an agreement with their partner to quarantine prior owned assets, and inherited assets should they separate. Properly done, these agreements are binding. Assets can be passed down to the family rather than to the out laws.

After opening over 30 files in a short time, I had to consider expanding.I panicked and jumped into Legal aid, Still waiting on Phillips Fox and Masel position. I was offered that position 3 days after joining Legal Aid. I was asked to stay for a month before going to my new position.

I was there for one year, 3 days 8 hours and ten seconds.I did learn a lot. My first client on day one wanted a divorce, and the Boss did not have expertise in the new Family Law Act. I had been in the office less than 3 hours...and saw the client alone. And that was how I landed in Family Law!.
