Industrial Scientist, Battery Technologies Specialist My interests lie in solving industrially-relevant problems using innovative R&D and technology developments from a range of technical, academic and commercial arenas. I leverage a multi-disciplinary academic background into various technical fields. I am internationally regarded as a materials science expert and leader in the fields of lithium-ion batteries, nano-materials manufacture and high temperature superconductors. I hold numerous patents in the fields of solid-state chemistry, automated chemical manufacture and nano-materials. My expertise includes the management of skilled scientist and engineering teams in collaboration with both local and international R&D organisations. I was the founder, Director and CEO of several successful high technology start-up companies. I am currently an Adjunct Professorial Fellow at QUT and an AQ Founders Fellow with a remit of brokering industry partnering and engagement. I am a past Program Manager for the Future Battery CRC which has total funding over 6 years of $135M. I am a past Director and Project Manager of the National Battery Testing Centre at QUT in collaboration with the FBI CRC. I am a past Chief Investigator or the Australian Research Councils Training Centre for Future Energy Storage Technologies. I am also a past Chief investigator for the Australian Renewable Energy Agency research and development program for Cost Effective Renewable Hydrogen through Materials, Modelling and Process Innovation. During my QUT tenure, as Chief Investigator for the AutoCRC project to develop scale-up processes for producing lithium-ion battery materials for the Malaysian Automotive Institute, I established QUT’s Advanced Battery Facility (ABF). Located at QUT’s Pilot Plant, Banyo, the ABF is the first lithium ion battery manufacturing facility in Australia. This facility produces high performance batteries from advanced in-house cathode materials, tests battery and cell systems and carries out developmental prototype work for various battery formats. I have served on a range of advisory boards and am a former Member of Academic Advisory Boards. I am a prolific entrepreneur who has been involved in joint product development with more than 50 international companies over a ten-year period. I have jointly raised over $40 M in investment funds for new technology companies, including over $15 M in competitive R&D grants.
