A kid at heart.Pediatric occupational therapist with a diverse skill set of activities of daily living, play development, pre-vocational, behavioral, fine motor, visual-motor, and handwriting interventions. The majority of my experience also includes consideration of sensory processing skills, such as for those with autism spectrum disorder or development delay. In both public and special school settings combined, I have written over 50 IEP’s and evaluated or re-evaluated more than 20 students. I have experience in working with children between the ages 3-21, including one who was homebound due to medical needs. My passion for working with children with special needs is unmistakable. I am driven in helping my clients reach their goals and empathetic in reaching their hearts and minds. I am disciplined in all facets of evaluation, planning, and intervention. I continually seek professional development and education to further my expertise in the area of pediatrics. I am a former athlete and team captain who transfers those life experiences to the interpersonal and interdisciplinary duties necessary for an occupational therapist to uphold. And, despite my internal ambition, I maintain a cheerful and lighthearted demeanor in the workplace. I would be lying if I did not say one of my favorite parts of the job included pushing the swing or playing with toys.My journey in pediatrics began when I had my first fieldwork experience at a school for children with special needs. I liked it there so much I came back later that year as an aide in the summer and then again as a casual therapist in the fall. In that time, I saw everything from assistive technology to busing equipment, from toileting to pre-vocational skills, and from IEP development to adapting interventions within a treatment session. I worked with children with diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy. The work was challenging, rewarding, and held to a high standard.
