Peter is a senior brand marketing and communications professional with over 30 years of experience leading communications strategy and execution at large companies including Legg Mason and Merrill Lynch. He has guided high performing marketing teams in building strong global brands, competitive product positioning and integrated marketing platforms that drive business growth. Unique accomplishments include forging effective partnerships between marketing and sales teams and rapid adaption of online technology tools into the marketing mix. Peter retired from Legg Mason in January 2020 where he was Managing Director working on global brand management, senior executive strategic communications and internal communications. He also spent ten years as a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Council. Prior to Legg Mason, Peter spent thirteen years in various marketing capacities at Merrill Lynch with responsibilities including national advertising, financial advisor marketing, and strategic communications for ML Global Bank. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Peter’s career was spent in advertising. At Ogilvy & Mather in New York he was VP/Management Supervisor on the American Express Card, Travelers Cheques and American Express Financial Advisors. Other advertising clients included IBM, Toyota, General Mills and Dean Witter Financial Services. Peter graduated from Harvard College with an undergraduate honors degree where he focused on the Social Sciences and Anthropology. He also spent two years working at The White House in Washington, D. C. before beginning his business career. After retirement, Peter spent fifteen months during 2020 and 2021 as a communications consultant with the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.Peter began a mentorship with a sixteen-year-old Baltimore City high school student in 2010 as part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chesapeake in Maryland (BBBSGC). He subsequently joined the Board of BBBSGC where he led the communications committee for several years.Peter was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of The Watershed Institute to support their mission of keeping water clean, safe and healthy in central New Jersey through conservation, advocacy, science and education.
