First and foremost, I love doing analyzing data and turn unstructured data into usable pieces of information through visualization and summarizing parameters. Combining this with my love for writing code in Python, Matlab, or R and deploy the results in nice user interfaces is what makes me tick.My first encounter with advanced analytics was some 20 years ago in building a quantitative model for a inline Near Infrared Spectrometry (NIRS) application. To get the job done I needed to learn a lot of skills: linear algebra, multivariate data analysis and writing code in Matlab. This was a very time consuming journey, but it was really worth it and, most importantly, I loved learning all this stuff and apply the learnings in industrial applications! I got so passionate that all my later career decisions were focused on becoming (what we now cal) a data scientist and I was very lucky that I was able to reach that goal.The last 10 years I worked as a R&D senior scientist at DSM. In this role I was involved in many projects that required statistical evaluation of measurement data and multivariate analysis of highly correlated process data. My main fields of expertise are applying so-called industrial statistics to monitor processes, like (Multivariate) Statistical Process Control (SPC), Capability analysis and using machine learning methods to model and optimize processes. Even when I leave the office, I continue to write code at home. I am also an amateur astronomer and combine this hobby with my passion for math and writing code. My favorite application is a Matlab GUI that predicts solar eclipses and tracks the solar umbral path on a geographical map. Years later I re-coded the application in Python. The field of data science is very dynamic with a huge amount of great new developments.
