Current summary:Upon retirement from PG&E at the end of 2019, I started my own consultancy focused on building decarbonization. During my last 10 years at PG&E, I led PG&E's market-facing activities for Zero Net Energy (ZNE), which began morphing into building decarbonization a few years back. Since 2011, PG&E's ZNE Program worked with a number of production home builders, successfully demonstrating that new homes can be built to ZNE performance levels at very low incremental cost. We have supervised two groundbreaking, widely circulated studies, "The Technical Potential for ZNE in California," and "The Road to ZNE": this work shows, briefly, that ZNE is feasible for about 75% of the new buildings going forward, and that the most significant barriers to ZNE are around policy and economics, and not technical feasibility. PG&E offers a 3 volume set of case studies with detailed documentation of 17 non-residential ZNE buildings, 11 of which are full electric. PG&E led an adjunct program to Prop 39--the core activity is successfully retrofitting a series of schools to ZNE. As part of the ZNE program, PG&E ran "Architecture at Zero," an architectural design competition for ZNE, for nine years--it is now being run by a statewide utility group.General Backround:Skilled in successful set-up, start-up and ongoing management of 501 (c) 3 organizations.
