Teaching, research and leadership within the IT discipline in the Institute of Innovation, Science and Sustainability.My research is focused primarily on reinforcement learning, with a special interest in the extension of RL methods to multiobjective problems, where I am a world leader. I am also working on the application of these methods to the issue of human-aligned AI, including safety, ethics, explainability and trust.I co-lead the Australian Responsible Autonomous Agents Collective (ARAAC), and also provide leaderhsip within the machine learning stream of the Centre for Smart Analytics. I am currently the Professoriate representative on Federation University's Research Committee.I teach primarily within the Computer Games and Digital Media program, as well as in artificial intelligence and research methods. I also supervise Research Higher Degree students across a range of areas of artificial intelligence.

The Australian Responsible Autonomous Agents Collective (ARAAC) consists of staff and students from multiple Australian Universities, focused on addressing the technical, ethical, and humanitarian challenges posed by the rise of intelligent systems, in particular systems composed of autonomous agents. I was involved in the ongoing development and delivery of units associated with the Bachelor of Applied Computing (Games Technology) degree.I was also leader of the Data Mining and Informatics Research Group within the Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimisation, and lead Element 1 of the University's Collaborative Research Network project.

I was involved in the ongoing development and delivery of units associated with the Bachelor of Applied Computing (Games Technology) degree.I was also leader of the Data Mining and Informatics Research Group within the Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimisation. My research interests include multiobjective reinforcement learning, text mining and machine learning.

I developed, lectured and coordinated units in a wide range of Computer Science topics. Most recently this was in Games Programming, Computer Graphics and Animation, and Knowledge-Based Systems. Previously I have taught introductory programming (in Modula-2, Pascal, C and Java), digital image processing, algorithms, personal software process, software quality assurance, computer networks, and software metrics.I have supervised a number of research higher degree students, and many Honours students - mostly in the field of artificial intelligence.I have also undertaken my own research into neural networks and reinforcement learning, as well as undertaking a commercial consultancy to develop a Web-enabled expert system shell and associated rule-base.

During this time I worked at various periods as a clerical assistant in the Department of Economic History, a research assistant in the Department of Geography and a tutor for a first-year unit in the Department of Statistics (all of these positions were on a casual basis).
