Working on explaining the complexities on Sustainable Agriculture & Land management, and the relationship between Europe and Indonesia (and South East Asia)

I advised one of Indonesia's largest business groups, one of the world's biggest plantation companies, on international relations, advocacy and the integration of sustainability values. Internally I supported processes that improve the brand value of Sinar Mas; explaining that in today's world a well-known positive image depends on enjoying a reputation of having genuine strong and lasting commitment for local and global society & the environment, and being able to show results. Externally I represented Sinar Mas with foreign government representatives, chambers of commerce, international organisations, NGOs, universities and companies. From 2015 I was board member of the Indonesia Canada Chamber of Commerce. As specific tasks I provided advice on how Sinar Mas' different businesses can play a leading role in their respective sectors: agro-business, environmental sustainability, real estate (green & smart developing and building), renewable energy, ICT, education, health-care and financial inclusion. From April 2017 I represented Sinar Mas Agriresources in Brussels to explain Sustainable Palm Oil to European Union representatives. Finally I supported the group's businesses in identifying and developing commercial and technical partnerships that improve our performance. We embraced criticism as a source of dynamism and inspiration

Overseeing the work of the Indonesia - Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC), support improving services for Indonesian corporate members and in any way support the relationship between Canada and Indonesia

From January 2006 to October 2012 I worked as an independent consultant, advising (including training) donors, governments, central banks, international organisations on legal (including financial sector regulation and on and off-site supervision), strategic and political aspects of building an inclusive financial sector in countries that face challenges with many citizens being excluded from sustained economic growth and employment because of poverty and the underdevelopment of rural areas.

Study on innovative way for integrating handicapped and elderly people in a sustainable (near commercial) manner into the labor market. Locally active banks would have a key role with support of the city and European subsidies

Transformation of a 2010 Study on Micro-Finance regulation undertaken in six Asian countries, Get The Framework Right, into a training program and carrying out such training.

Legal assessment and advice for reform of PNPM-Mandiri's Revolving Loan Fund and transformation towards local community-owned financial institutions.

Providing TA and training to the Palestine Monetary Authority to improve the regulatory framework and supervisory skills, supporting the transformation and integration of (donor-dependent) Micro-lending institutions into the banking sector, thereby helping to build an inclusive financial sector.

Trainer in Policy & Regulatory issues in Micro-Finance and the process of building Inclusive Financial sectors

For the Finance Ministry (National Treasury) I undertook its first study on Financial services for low-income households. With the Micro-Finance Regulatory Council (now NCR) I advised on several issues and and assisted in the management and undertaking of research (credit bureaux, informal moneylenders, impact HIV-AIDS, regulation etc). In the context of the United Nation's Year of Microcredit I was member of the Organising Committee of the African MicroFinance Conference that took place in August 2005 and attracted some 450 participants from 45 countries.

From January 2003 to October 2004 I advised the IMF on Micro-Finance policy (headoffice in Washington), regulation and supervision. From May 2004 I was based in Bamako, Mali, working in ten (French-speaking) West African countries. Regularly IMF HQ asked my advice on Micro-Finance matters in the region but also concerning other African countries.

Advisor Legal Affairs in GTZ's Financial Sector Development Program, based in the Central Bank of Uganda. Within the team we worked closely with the Bank of Uganda to draft the Micro-Finance Deposit-taking Institutions Bill, a Micro-Finance law that has been recognised as a world-wide example of succes, also as regards the law-making process (involving parliament and many other stakeholders). In this function I also advised the African Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (AFRACA, Nairobi) in its restructuring and advice to its members (all over Africa). As AFRACA's advisor I accompanied its Secretary General on its meetings with African governments, central banks, and with international organisations.
