Translating is a profession and it is more than the correct rendering of words into another language. Mastery of a language is half of the story. The other half is knowledge of the environment and surroundings in which the source- and target languages are spoken. Sound translating calls for linguistic comprehension accompanied by an understanding of (sub)cultural differences. Identifying the Achilles' heels of a text is one thing, conceiving the possibilities to touch the 'right chord', using various style registers, is another. But both do serve the same purpose: to present a text to the reader or target group aimed at that covers the original virtually and in as many aspects as possible. I handle all assignments within the source- and target languages Dutch, Spanish and English, paying meticulous attention to quality and clarity. For me business is business and a ‘tooter’ is not a ‘bell'. Pero las dos cosas sirven un solo objetivo: la presentación al lector o al público destinatorio de un texto, que comprende el original de modo virtual y en todas las facetas posibles. Todos los encargos en cuanto a las lenguas fuentes y metas, el holandés, el español y el inglés, serán tratados con toda la atención centrada en calidad y claridad. Para mí negocios son negocios y 'pompa' no es 'boato'. Si me falta una competencia específica puedo recurrir - siendo su mediador - a pericias de unas terceras personas a quienes enviaría francamente y gratuitamente. Puedo ponerle en contacto con colegas de formación universitaria con amplios intereses y con mucha práctica en el campo de traducir. Maar beide dienen hetzelfde doel: de lezer of beoogde doelgroep een tekst presenteren die de oorspronkelijke feitelijk en in zoveel mogelijk facetten omvat. Opdrachten met als bron- en doeltalen het Nederlands, Spaans en Engels verwerk ik gericht op kwaliteit en helderheid. Voor mij zijn zaken zaken, 'toeters' iets anders dan 'bellen'. Wanneer ik een specifieke competentie niet in huis heb dan schakel ik - als uw intermediair - deskundigheid van derden in naar wie ik onomwonden en zonder kosten verwijs. Academisch gevormde vakgenoten met een brede belangstelling en ervaring op vertaalgebied kan ik naderbij brengen. Ik vertaal voor maatschappelijke organisaties, kunstinstellingen en particulieren. En ik ben gelukkig met mijn vertalingen van poëzie van Federico García Lorca en liederen van Atahualpa Yupanqui.
