Current projects:• On behalf of the Delta Platform I developed a research by design study on extreme sea level rise adaptation strategies for the Oosterschelde estuary in Sealand with Rijkswaterstaat, Province of Zeeland, municipalities and Delft University and Hogeschool Zeeland.• I supported the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland with setting-up a living lab on sustainable water management and I coordinated a EU funding proposal for large-scale uptake of ground water storage solutions for the rural areas of Schouwen-Duiveland with Deltares, KWR Water and Acacia Water. • I work with the World Wildlife Fund, Delft University of Technology and the Delta Platform to set up a living lab on sustainable sediment management in the Rijn-Maas estuary. This living lab will run for 2 years in the framework of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2018-2020. As a PhD researcher at the TU Delft, department of Urbanism, I developed spatial concepts and planning strategies of integrating flood risk strategies with urban development processes. I have been involved in workshops on integrated and adaptive flood risk management in the Netherlands and several urbanized deltas such as New Orleans, New York, Houston, Norfolk, Taipei and Ho Chi Minh City and lectured at Delft Delta Interventions Studio and at Unesco-IHE.

As theme lead “adaptive urban development” within the Rotterdam Adaptation Strategy team, I coordinated and managed research projects on coastal climate adaptation such as multipurpose flood protection and adaptive strategy for the flood prone areas. For these projects, I was responsible for project design, contractual and financial agreements within multidisciplinary research consortia and overall project management. This included developing resiliency building codes and regulations for flood resilient architecture and resilient urban development aligned with urban renewal processes and local community engagement.
