The process of realizing ideas tickles my fancy – it’s an art. By that definition I experience engineering as art and, being more creative with a pencil and calculator, I chose to be an engineer. Lego and I changed the state of my toys; usually not a reversible process. To learn more about reversible processes, I enrolled in a mechanical engineering programme that culminated in 2006 with a drivetrain design for a solar powered vehicle, and a UAV propeller design, build & test project. I was awarded the top spot for my aerospace project.I became experienced working in South Africa at a small family-owned design & build company as a design engineer for 5 years. We successfully delivered various projects in the railway & security sectors. TAEM Engineering’s small team allowed me to cover many functions in the product lifecycle: concept generation, engineering design, manufacturing, quality assurance & commissioning. This experience really strengthened my 3D CAD design, NC programming & machining skills, as well as the requirements of other functions in a business.I built up the balance of my experience at Aerosud Aviation, a company supplying products to Boeing & Airbus. During my first 2 years at Aerosud I certified as an Airbus Manufacturing Engineer supporting the A400M programme. Later I transitioned to a management role and headed up the Process Engineering department for 4 years. Our team ensured industrialization, qualification, maintenance, improvement & execution of aerospace manufacturing processes to satisfy business KPI’s. I enjoyed leading talented engineers and as a team we worked with a success-culture at the forefront.Later our family relocated to Europe where enjoyed increased exposure in the international engineering industry. I fulfilled various roles, mainly focused in the aerospace industry.Now I am a seasoned engineer leading an exciting team of Systems & Industrialization engineers.In my free time I consult for my daughters on their experiences with Lego & irreversible processes.
