As a microbiologist working within the MDU, Victoria's public health laboratory, rotating across a range of sections within the Unit:General BacteriologySTDs and the STD laboratory serviceChlamydia section Salmonella reference laboratoryInvolved in a range of public health laboratory initiatives including 'the M Team', where staff from MDU visited Victorian regional centres, conducting laboratory seminars with regional labs and emphasising the importance of their work , and their interface with the epidemiological data they produced that the MDU collated and analysed, as well as the roles and functions of the MDU. Enormous goodwill generated and important relationships and collaborations enhanced.

The laboratory at Melbourne's Communicable Diseases Centre provided a stat service in the clinical diagnosis of STIs in clinic patients, plus a bacteriology and mycology onsite laboratory service, working closely with the state public health laboratory, the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit (MDU). This stat service enable a more targeted treatment approach to patient care, and that, combined with enhanced contact tracing, helped to reduce infection load in these areas during this time.
