Editor/Deputy Editor on the official ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ and associated publications, published by Panini UK under licence from the BBC.In this dynamic and challenging position, my responsibilities required a blend of creative thinking, effective communication, and meticulous project management to contribute to the success and ongoing popularity of ‘Doctor Who’ publications. In the role, I would:• Manage and coordinate the editorial team to meet tight, fixed deadlines efficiently, to ensure timely delivery of content.• Maintain effective communication with key stakeholders within the ‘Doctor Who’ production team, the BBC, and senior management at Panini, to stay informed of developments with the brand and align magazine content accordingly.• Work closely with senior figures at BBC Books, BBC Audio, and other companies to integrate collaborative content seamlessly into the magazine.• Continually generate and propose fresh ideas for magazine content. • Initiate magazine projects and manage their development through to their publication.• Commission, manage, and edit writers and contributors to ensure high-quality and compelling content consistent with the magazine’s standards.• Proofread and supervise the design process to ensure the editorial quality and visual appeal of the magazine.• Oversee the sourcing of exclusive photography and supervise the design process to maintain the magazine’s appeal over its competitors.• Negotiate fees and advertising agreements to optimise revenue while maintaining the magazine’s integrity and reader experience.• Write original features, new stories and press releases.• Run official social media accounts inc Facebook (70k followers), Instagram (6k followers) and X/Twitter (170,000 followers).• Handle and resolve customer complaints and enquiries.• Interview and assess candidates for roles on the publications.• Train new employees.
