About Peter Watson
I have spent most of my career in the IBM mainframe environment as an MVS Systems Programmer, although the last 17 years have been in Software Configuration Management, which I have done at Serena Software in England, Credit Suisse and UBS in Switzerland, Al Rajhi Bank in Saudi Arabia and Transnet and Standard Bank in South Africa, using ChangeMan ZMF. By Software Configuration Management, I am referring to the control and management of the complete development life cycle, from program checkin/checkout through edit, compile, promotion and testing, audit and implementation into production. Of course, this includes backout and all of the security required to safeguard the clients’ source code and executable code. My involvement with ChangeMan ZMF has been in all forms – technical, managerial and as a consultant. I have written interfaces to make ChangeMan ZMF integrate with z/OS, JES2, DB2, CICS and other third-party products. I wrote these in Assembler, REXX, CLIST and COBOL, depending on the requirements of the client.My last project at Standard Bank of South Africa was to upgrade ChangeMan ZMF to V7R1M2.• Operator/Operations Shift leader on OS/VS1 – 3 years• Cobol programmer – 3 years• VTAM/NCP Systems programmer – 1 year• IMS DB/DC Systems Programmer – 1 year • MVS Systems programmer / IBM Software and Third Party Software support – 15+ years• CICS Systems Programmer (at the same time as an MVS Systems Programmer) – 7 years• Software Configuration Management (ChangeMan ZMF) – 17 years• Assembler• COBOL• REXX• CLIST• Visual Basic• VB Script / ASP• HTML/XML• ROSCOE RPF• DIBOL• C++ (course only)The bottom line is that I have spent the majority of my 40 years as a Systems Programmer, looking after OS/VS1, MVS/SP, MVS/XA, MVS/ESA and supporting all of the IBM products that go with those, as well as a myriad of Third Party Software products (please see my CV), followed by 17 years of Software Configuration Management, using ChangeMan ZMF.
