I retired from this position in July 2007 but continued to work as an independent consultant before retiring fully in 2010.

My entire professional career was spent in the world of education. I taught French and German at a large comprehensive school in Basildon, Essex from 1973 to 1979, taking on the additional rôles of Head of House, Head of Careers and Deputy Head of Sixth Form. In January 1980, I took up the post of Careers Co-ordinator at another large comprehensive in Witham, Essex. In 1984, I became Director of Sixth Form Studies at a British Forces comprehensive school in what was then West Germany, returning to the UK in January 1989 to become Director of the Sleaford Schools Joint Sixth Form consortium. I became Deputy Head at Carre's Grammar School in April 1993 and Headmaster in September 1998. Heart problems led to my decision to resign from that post in April 2003 and to join EM Direct in Grantham as Assistant Director of Training.
