I have retired from my pediatric neuropsychology practice. After 32 years at Dean (and 34 years post doctorate) it was time to hang up the spurs. I am continuing part time in a new program we developed in primary care at Dean called the Memory, Attention, Cognition Clinic, or “MAC”. It is designed to provide quick screening assessment for people across the adult age range to have attention problems, memory difficulties or problems with thinking. It has taken about four months to build the practice but now we are “going strong“. Please note that this does not replace specialty neuropsychology but it does provide a way for primary care physicians to have their patients screened efficiently and quickly — same week, even same day if necessary.I also consult once a month with the Catholic Charities program for children struggling with emotional and behavioral problems in the public schools.September,2020. I haven’t looked at this in a while and I should provide an update. In part, because it is relevant to the strange and uncharted Territory we are all in as a result of the coronavirus. I continued at Dean for about three years after my “retirement” in July, 2017. As noted above, I provided screening assessments in primary care for adults (the MAC Clinic, described above). But in 2019, because of staff shortages, I returned to pediatrics where I provided evaluations et cetera until January 2020. I suffered a fall on the ice in January which resulted in a massive rotator cuff injury. Even with surgery, my right arm did not recover well. Then, of course, the coronavirus hit and Outpatient neuropsychological evaluations were suspended along with just about every other type of outpatient service. My original plan was to work into May 2020 and then retire, receiving a grand fireworks display and the ticker tape parade. But, given the situation, I retired quietly, without any notice whatsoever, in early April 2020. Since the start of the school year, I have been a “teachers aid“ for my grandchildren, which seems a decent enough way to spend my retirement.
